Florida man pleads guilty to killing wife of girlfriend
A Florida man pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing his wife of three years, who had fallen ill and stopped breathing.
Johnathan Lewis, 36, pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Ashley, in October.
Lewis, who was arrested in December and was later released on bail, faces a minimum of life in prison.
The case was one of several in which police had been investigating the death, and authorities said they were confident in the evidence in the case.
“I know I’m a good man, but I’m not going to lie to you,” Lewis said in a video he made after his arrest.
“I did not kill my wife.
She was a good person.
The arrest warrant says that Ashley Lewis died of a pulmonary embolism at a hospital in Miami in October 2016.
The cause of death was undetermined.
The woman’s death sparked a nationwide manhunt for Lewis, and investigators said they searched for him in Florida, Louisiana and Texas.
Authorities said he also traveled to Florida from Texas.
Authorities said the couple’s daughter and mother died in the house after Lewis shot his wife.
They are now buried in Florida.
