What to do if you get a letter from your local paper with the title ‘Please get me a new iPhone’
A reader has sent me a message saying they have received a letter with a request for a new iPad, Apple’s tablet, as well as the request to buy a new phone, the Daily Nation newspaper reports.
The letter has been sent to the owner of a house in Hamilton County, Ohio, and has the title: ‘Dear Mr. Smith, We are a little late, but would you be willing to pay $300,000 for a brand new iPad.
We would love to be able to use it for the entire week.
Thank you for your time and consideration.’
It’s a common request, but it’s a bit more common than it might seem, says Michael DeMoro, a professor at the University of Akron who researches consumer preferences.
“A lot of times when people say they need a new device, it’s not really because they need an iPad, it might be because they want to be more productive,” he said.
For example, many people might have an iPhone for work, DeMorian said, but they might want to do some work on their iPad.
If you want a new Apple iPhone, it may be worth waiting to buy the new device until the year 2033, he said, and if you want to buy an iPad for work you might be better off waiting until then.
“Apple has been very successful with its sales strategy, so I would think there are a lot of people who would be willing for it to be a year late,” DeMorso said.
The Daily Nation says the owner is also seeking $100,000 in a property tax bill, as it has in the past.
The owner says he’s been a member of the newspaper for 25 years and is a fan of the paper.
“I don’t mind that I don’t get paid by the paper anymore,” he told the paper in a phone interview.
He said he will be happy to provide a copy of his bank statement and some personal information.
The owners address has not been released, but a copy has been published online.
Apple declined to comment on the matter, saying it’s “proud of our customer service team.”
It may be hard for a company that prides itself on being able to sell devices to be willing pay for a lot more than what you might expect from a company with so many loyal customers.
In fact, the average cost of an iPad today is $249, according to IDC.
That’s up from about $200 in the mid-2000s, according a report from the research firm Gartner.
The average price for a smartphone is also up from $200 to $250.
The cost of a phone has also gone up over the last couple of years, with an iPhone’s cost going from $400 to $650 in 2016.
“The price of the device has increased by about 50% in the last two years, and the average price has gone up by another 40% over the same time period,” said Robert D. Kohn, senior analyst with the Technology and Privacy Group at IDC, in a recent blog post.
