What to expect from the Alabama-Tennessee game on Monday: Five things to know

The Tennessee Titans, who face the Alabama Crimson Tide in Nashville on Monday night, are trying to bounce back from a disappointing 7-9 season and make a run at the playoffs.

The Titans (4-6, 3-4 SEC) have been without starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger for most of the season.

Mettenberg tore his anterior cruciate ligament against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6.

They have yet to have a bye in the season, and Mettenenberg’s injury could complicate a game that could be crucial to Tennessee’s hopes of making the postseason.

“It’s kind of hard to look forward to,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey said.

“There are a lot of unknowns.

It’s a lot to take in.”

Mularkey added that the Titans are in a tough spot.

They haven’t made the playoffs since 2010, and last year they lost a thrilling home game against the Cincinnati Bengals in which Mettenheim missed time with a knee injury.

Tennessee’s next opponent is the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 1.

It’s not just the quarterback that’s under the microscope.

There’s also wide receiver Corey Davis, who is dealing with a calf injury.

Davis has missed the last three games and hasn’t played in an NFL game since a Week 8 loss to the Miami Heat.

“He’s not 100 percent yet,” Titans receiver Terrance Williams said.

“…

I don’t know how much he’s been able to practice, but it’s not something that we can control.”

Williams, who caught two touchdowns against the Falcons last week, said the Titans “have to take a step back” and “go to sleep” if they want to be a factor in the AFC South.

“I think it’s a little tough for the team,” Williams said of Mettenber.

“He’s a guy who is our starter, we’ve seen that, but we have to step back and sleep.
